Can this be done to a ring?
I want to get a ring made with some diamonds that have been given to me by my Grandparents. I have 1 good sized stone that I want in the center. Then 2 slightly smaller on either side if the center. I have 6 smaller stones that I want to put one the outside (3 on each side). One jeweler said that it couldn’t be done without making a completely custom ring which would cost over a thousand dollars. Another jeweler said that he could find a setting that could fit the 6 stones than modify the center so the other 3 would fit. By modifying he meant cutting out the center part of the ring and putting his own in. What do you think? Is this a common thing to do? Help!!
It’s pretty common. My grandparents will only have their rings custom made…and that’s any ring they want..not just their wedding band 51 years ago. I’d say that the first and second jeweler are both correct….the first one may not have access to the semi mounts that the second jeweler does….either way is possible. I’m sure he can find something similar and then break out the head to make sure he finds one that will fit the dimensions of your center stone. It’s not a huge deal if but he can’t find anything then yes I’m sure the ring will have to be custom made.
