High quality camera for travel? (Details included..)?
Hi,
I’ll be going on a trip to Africa in the near future and I am looking for a high quality camera that will take excellent pictures. I really like the cameras that will focus on one object, and make the background blurry. Specifically, I’m looking for a camera that is easy to use and pretty fool proof – no or very few blurry pictures. I have a budget of no more than $1,000. I would prefer a camera that you didn’t have to change lenses on.

A good travel camera should be light and tough. These are my recommendations.

Which to choose
If you want the most options, go with a DSLR. You will get that “Blurry” look and will be able to use zoom lenses easily. They are the biggest, but the three I mentioned are fairly small and all under $500.
If size is the biggest concern, go with one of the advanced compacts. All of these take excellent pictures and can easily fit in a purse. Only issue is that none have a very long zoom. I personally like the LX3 the most. They range in price from $350 to $500
If you want something in between, get a Micro 4/3rds camera. They give you many of the options of a DSLR but are much smaller. You can also put longer zooms on them if necessary. These are the most expensive of the cameras mentioned with prices between $500 and $800. I like the Olympus E-PL1 the best, but they are all good.
Check them out out on Amazon. Try out the ones you like in the store. They are all good, its just a matter of finding the one that works for you.
