Can I mix different brands of speakers in my truck?
I have a 2000 Tacoma extended cab and I want to take out the factory speakers and put new ones in their place, I was about order Infinity Reference 6032si 6-1/2″ shallow-mount 2-way car speakers for behind the seats and Kicker 07DS600 for the front doors from crutchfield, and I was wondering will these different brands work with one another? Also it says for each that it comes in a pair, so dose that mean their will be a total of 4 speakers?
The ideal is to have the main speakers from the same manufacturer’s “line” in order for them to all match in timbre(tone) since all speakers are not created equally. Use the biggest size you can in the front of the vehicle in order to keep the bass image up front. For example if your vehicle takes 6-1/2″ speakers in the front as well as the rear, go with 6-1/2″ only in the front and use the next smaller size in the rear. Most likely a 5-1/4″. You may have to use an adapter to make them fit if this is the case. This way the bass doesn’t get dragged to the back seat and will remain in the front where it belongs. You will also save some money on the smaller speakers that you can put towards something else that can improve your system. If you use a seperate subwoofer/s make sure to keep the low-pass crossover point at or below 100Hz to preserve the “bass up front” image. Speakers are almost always sold in pairs for left and right. The exception is subwoofers. Good luck with the system.
