Major resources of Rubilite and sapphire beads
Ruby and sapphire belongs to the same class of corundum family. These are known as the hardest gemstones along with diamond. Reaction of water with corundum converts it into crystalline form and through this structure they convert into gemstones. Reaction of corundum with coloring agents like Nickel and Chromium converts it into ruby or sapphires.
People usually search a lot to find out the best ruby and sapphire beads, however the best quality of them is available in Burma (Myanmar). The stuff made in this country looks beautiful and also very bright in color, due to which Burma emerged as the leading beads exporter across the world. The good quality stuff of Burmese origin is transparent. Burmese Rubilite is very rare and therefore fetches a very high value. According to an average estimation, 5 carat of Rubilite can cost up to 60 thousand dollars per carat. Sapphire beads of Burma are also very expensive. Other countries that contain good resources of Ruby and Sapphire beads are Vietnam, Cambodia and Ceylon. Although the quality level of ruby and sapphires available in Ceylon is not up to the level of Burma but the level of pink sapphire is very good out there.
Ruby and sapphire beads available in Thailand contain a black tint due to the availability of iron in them. The best thing about Thai beads is that they are very hard, rich in color and have good luster. In contrast to this Rubilite available in India and Africa is not of very good quality and mostly opaque or translucent. Due to this reason, they are mostly referred as corundum. Kenya, Koromoro and Johnson are some of the areas of Africa that have very good resources of commercial ruby.
In India you can you find plenty of Rubilite resources in the areas of Orissa, Mysore and Andhra regions. Indian rubies are mainly used for making of beads as they do not contain very good quality required for cut stones. The best quality of blue sapphire is available in Kashmir region and they have color of peacock blue with a very good luster. In addition to this, a pin-point color tint in the bottom that can be seen in the whole of stone increases its beauty to a new level. Due to a high demand of Rubilite and sapphire beads all over the world, India in recent years emerged as a good exporter of them.
